Our History

In early 2010, as Snowden School turned 100 years old a group of current parents and Snowden alumni began to think about how to preserve the Snowden School legacy. It became apparent that to ensure Snowden School continued to be the excellent public school that it has been for the past century financial investment above and beyond public funding was needed. As the thinking turned to raising money for a centennial gift to the school a more long-term plan began to take form. The idea that a fund should be established that would invest continually in Snowden School in the form of teacher grants, major school infrastructure investments and supplemental educational opportunities lead to the formation of the Snowden School Foundation. With help from the law firm of Burch, Porter & Johnson, PLLC, the first charter was written in the spring of 2010. Snowden School PTA made an initial investment of $13,000. Over time, through corporate and individual donations, as well as planned gifts and bequests to an endowment fund, Snowden School Foundation will support a wide variety of programs and projects. Today the Snowden School Foundation is actively pursuing the development of a Snowden alumni database and working to bring business and community leaders into Snowden School to assist with this goal.
